Our psyche was under great pressure, but in the end everything happened according to my expectations, says Tomas Brezina

Historically the second in-line hockey championship held in the Czech Republic is already only the past. In a peaceful town of Beroun which is situated near busy Prague the 17 teams enjoyed well-organisated tournament without complications. The unsually very high temperatures were the only problem. „It was extremely hot but we coped with it and nobody complained,“ says the head of the organizing committee Tomas Brezina in the short interview after the tournament.

Mr. Brezina, will you remember this championship as a successful event?

Overall the championship was successful. I know about some details where we could do more, like during any other event. But generally it went as it should. Everybody was excited and a lot of people thanked me for the wonderful experiences. It is just a pity that the Czech men did not win otherwise it would be perfect.

Whose praise were you most delighted by?

Of course I was pleased the most with commendations from the International Federation, specifically from Gilbert Portiers (President of the Committee for in-line hockey in the organization FIRS). I received a thank-you-mail from the previous president George Pickard from the USA as well. But I appreciated thanks from any team or player who came to me.

Very hot weather complicated the work to you and players. How difficult was it to deal with these conditions?

It was a complication, because we had to support ourselves with much more liquids than we had expected. We had to buy and deliver the water and it cost bigger amounts. It was extremely hot but we coped with it and nobody complained. On the other hand it was definitely better than if it was like in Varesa last year. It rained there a whole week and because of flooded locker roomes some games were delayed.

How do you evaluate the work of single organizers?

About onedred people participated in the course of tournament. Puck-pickers, a team which made web sites or members of organizing committee. And all of them contributed to the event which was according to my expectations.

How long did you prepare the championship?

One year ago in Varesa we got the privilege of hosting of this year´s tournament and we began preparing. In recent three months the final phase started and we worked really hard. The negotation with sponsors and obtaining financial sources were the most important tasks. In this case the mayor of Beroun and now minister Jiri Besser played a main role and without his help the championship could not be arranged.

Do you think that due to the positive feedbacks the FIRS championship will return to the Czech Republic very soon?

Between the tournaments in Pisek and Beroun there was a seven-years gap. So I do not expect that the event will return in the coming years. Honestly I do not mind it because the strain on the psyche of whole organizing comettee was really enormous.
