The Czechs are like our brothers, said Slovakian coach Ivana Gajdosova

07.07.2010 | Lukas Caha, David Schlegel

Ivana Gajdosova, a coach and also player of Team Slovakia, admits, that her team arrived to Beroun almost without knowledge of rules, but the whole team practised on in-line skates every weekend and the preparation time was very hard.

Slovakian players have experienced no win in four games at the championship so far and they know their goal to advance to the final four will not happen. They still can end up fifth, but they have to win both remaining games.

How was your way to the World Championship in Beroun?
The thought to come to Beroun came two months before the start. We met with ice hockey players, who wanted to try this kind of sport. The worst thing was, that we did not know the rules well, so we came here as outsiders. We are gaining experience and I think that next year we will be better.

How did you prepare for the tournament? Did you have any camp?
We gathered together every weekend, because it is different on in-line skate than on those for ice hockey. We are also gradually get to know that the system of play is very different from ice hockey.

You played a game full of emotions against Spain. How did you felt in the locker room after the game?
We said we have to move on. Our performance improves every game. When we play 10 more games, it will be perfect.

There was a bad injury in the game. How does Petra Pavlovicova feel now?
She has problems with both knees. She cannot play for 100 per cent.

In in-line hockey there is no icing and offside. It makes the game faster. How do you feel about that?
Considering our skills, we are OK with it, we worked on that really hard. However, it is not easy to get used to the situation that there is not icing. We always wait for the whistle.

What all do you do on tournament?
It is easy - relax, regeneration and some time off. But it is mainly sport and recovery.

Are any restrictions for Slovakian players at the tournament?
Not much. They are only not allowed to drink alcohol and they have to get to bed at certain hour.

How do you like the organisation here in Beroun?
Everything has been allright here so far. We would like to have our own locker room, that is the only thing which bothers us. We have to move all the time. Organization is fine. The Czechs are our brothers, so we feel here almost like at home.
